Five Surprising Truths About C.S. Lewis's Narnia
Rereading Narnia
I recently reread C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia from start to finish. I hadn’t read the books since childhood, and many things surprised me. Lewis’s frequent amusing asides, his scathing assessments of certain characters, how whimsical it is in some parts, and how moving in others.
I also noted Lewis’s unsparing appraisal of the modern world, for example in his description of the progressive ‘Experiment House’ school, and his clear disapproval of the character Susan forsaking Narnia for trivial teenage preoccupations.
As such, I decided to make a video looking at five key moments in the saga that highlight the stark contrast between Lewis’s understanding of morality, and what is seen as good and normal in our materialist, utilitarian society.
